Three Tips About Paying Child Support
Child support is a VERY serious issue with regard to your divorce. Think about child support this way, if child support is not being paid, then the probability is high that the children, YOUR children lack adequate clothing, school supplies, or even worse, food.
Children have financial needs the same as adults have financial needs. That is the reason why child support is such a serious issue.
With regard to your case, if you and your ex spouse have children and either you or your spouse have been ordered to pay child support, we recommend that you continue reading this article. Below you will find a list of three methods that we recommend you use when paying child support.
Keep in mind, if DHS is involved in your case, then chances are that your child support payments will be processed through the Oklahoma Central Case Registry (DHS) in Oklahoma City. If that be the case, then DHS will have a written record of exactly how much child support was paid and when each payment was made. We strongly recommend that in addition to the DHS records, you maintain personal records so that in the event you should someday have to testify in court about exactly how much child support was paid and exactly when each payment was made, you will be able to testify accurately.
With that being said, here are our three recommended methods for paying child support:
Method Number One: Personal Check. Whenever you pay by personal check, be sure to write on each payment (in the bottom left hand corner of the check) that the check is for ‘child support’. By paying with personal check, you are ensuring that both you and your bank with have a written record that shows when the check was written, exactly how much the check was written for, and when the check was cashed.
Method Number Two: Credit Card Or Debit Card. Whenever you pay by credit card or debit card, you are ensuring that both you and your card company will have a written record that shows when each payment was processed and exactly how much each payment was processed for.
Method Number Three: Money Order. Whenever you pay by money order, there will be no record kept at a bank or card company, but there will be a receipt for you to keep in your personal records. We recommend that you pay using methods one or two above, but in the event that you are unable to pay using methods one or two above, we encourage you to use this method. Reminder, whenever you pay with a money order, make sure that you keep the receipt and store it in a safe location.
